As much as I love telling a complete and coherent story, this process is crucial to learning what the story is! I find it endlessly fascinating to go through the steps and when I started the blog, I hoped I would be able to find an audience for essays that walk through the process.
I also hope to de-mystify the work that goes into this kind of investigation. So many people (myself included) view "research" as a magical black box in which you put a question and an answer pops out on the other side.

Yes! It’s one of the reasons I really enjoy Substack and this genealogy community - the room is big enough to move around and explore all the corners we find fascinating or relevant or just curious.
As much as I admire and enjoy your stories, I’ll also be looking forward to more introspective and process pieces like this.
